Course Information

Training organisations and tutors are approved by SOLAS to deliver Safe Pass, CSCS and QSCS programmes. Before you start your programme, you can check that your tutor has been approved by SOLAS here.

Safe Pass

Safe Pass is a one-day health and safety awareness programme. The aim of the programme is to improve your knowledge and awareness of health and safety standards and practices in the construction industry. During the day, you’ll cover the following learning units:

  2. Legislation and Site Safety

  3. Site Accident Reporting

  4. Introduction to Risk Assessment

  5. Risk Assessment for Electricity

  6. Risk Assessment for Excavations

  7. Risk Assessment for Heights

  8. Behaviour-Based Safety

  9. Site Safety and Construction Equipment

  10. Site Safety and Construction Vehicles

  11. Personal Health and Welfare

  12. Noise and Vibration

  13. Personal Protective Equipment

Your tutor will charge a fee for participating in the Safe Pass Programme. The fee covers the cost of the training programme and a charge for the administration of the SOLAS Safe Pass Registration Card.

When you complete the programme, your tutor will upload your results to our National Construction Scheme Database. Your Safe Pass Registration Card will be issued to your tutor about five working days after they upload your information to the system. If there are any errors or queries about the information provided by your tutor, your Safe Pass Registration Card could be delayed.

Safe Pass Registration Cards are issued for four years after which time the card holder must attend a Safe Pass course to update their safety awareness training. A new Safe Pass Registration Card will be issued on successful completion of the training course.

Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS)

The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) programmes are for non-craft operatives in the construction sector.

If you wish to attend a CSCS Programme you must meet certain criteria for the specific skills category related to the SOLAS registration card. More information is available from CSCS Approved Training Organisations.

Your Approved Training Organisation will charge a fee for participating in a CSCS programme. The fee covers the cost of the training programme and a charge for QQI certification and the administration of your CSCS Experienced Operator Registration Card.

When you complete the CSCS experienced operator programme your Approved Training Organisation will submit your application for QQI Certification and SOLAS CSCS Registration Card. Upon approval of your QQI certification, SOLAS will arrange, through a designated card printing company, to issue your CSCS card directly to your ATO. It is the responsibility of the ATO to issue you with your CSCS Registration Card.

CSCS Experienced Operator Registration Cards are issued for five years. After that, you’ll need to apply to renew your card online.

Quarries Skills Certification Scheme (QSCS)

The Quarries Skills Certification Scheme (QSCS) programmes are for non-craft operatives in the quarrying sector.

If you wish to attend a QSCS Programme you must meet certain criteria for the specific skills category related to the SOLAS registration card. More information is available from one of the QSCS Approved Training Organisation.

Your Approved Training Organisation will charge a fee for participating in a QSCS training programme. The fee covers the cost of the programme and a charge for QQI certification and the administration of your QSCS Registration Card.

When you complete the QSCS Experienced Operator programme your Approved Training Organisation will submit your application for QQI certification and SOLAS QSCS Registration Card. Upon approval of your QQI certification, SOLAS will arrange, through a designated card printing company, to issue your QSCS card directly to your ATO. It is the responsibilty of the ATO to issue you with your QSCS Registration Card.
